As the end of August approaches, let’s check in again on the construction progress at Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory. Guess what? There’s yet another roof going up, this time on the body-in-white building.
Construction is progressing at a rapid clip at Tesla Gigafactory Berlin, with a roof and walls now going up on a second structure — the drive unit building.
I’m thinking that it’s about time to regularly monitor the construction progress at Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, and to leverage the competitive spirit of the German psyche. We saw incredible construction speed at Gigafactory Shanghai (Giga Shanghai) once the structural build got going in spring 2019.
Tesla is building the Giga Berlin factory without certain permits. This is required in order to build at the desired speed. There is the risk, though, of having to tear things down if permits are refused. That reduces Tesla’s negotiating power.
Tesla recently unveiled that the location of its 4th Gigafactory will be near Berlin, in Brandenburg in the Grünheide municipality next to the GVZ Berlin-Ost Freienbrink industrial park, and that it will require the removal of part of a forest.
