A “may day”’ call this year came from the U.S. Department of Energy. The DOE made a $30 million funding commitment to long-term energy solutions through its Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) office. “Long-term,” as defined in the project scope, starts at 10 hours and extends up to 100 hours of stored energy.
StorEn battery’s increased power density enables StorEn to reduce the size of the battery stack. With smaller plates able to deliver performance at parity with larger sizes, less material (like membrane material) is required, lowering material costs by as much as 50%.
The energy storage market in the United States was up +46% in the third quarter of 2017. This growth represents a strong opportunity for vanadium flow batteries – which may begin to outpace lithium as early as 2018 – to support energy storage and grid modernization.
Across the world, power downtime keeps going up. Power outages increased in frequency and were more widespread in 2016, affecting 33% more people, showing that we definitely need a solar storage solution.
Vanadium flow batteries are a type of rechargeable battery in which the energy is stored chemically in a liquid electrolyte contained in two tanks, unlike conventional batteries that store their reactive materials within their cells. StorEn Technology is developing a new generation of vanadium flow batteries to meet growing marketing demand for cost-effective energy storage for residential, industrial, or utility needs.
