Nikkei Asia has reported that Panasonic will begin producing prototypes of a new, cheaper type of battery for Tesla’s electric vehicles — the new tabless 4680 battery cells. Panasonic will start producing them sometime in 2021.
News today from Panasonic is that it is working with Tesla to produce the 4680 cells. Panasonic is also expanding battery production capacity at Gigafactory 1 in Nevada.
