In a move that could upset the US political apple cart all over Washington, Nevada Congresswoman Jacky Rosen has introduced a bipartisan bill to the House of Congress which, if successful, could overturn the 30% tariff on imported solar cells and modules introduced by President Donald Trump earlier this year.
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed a handful of new solar and energy related bills today in Carson City to help the state pivot away from the anti-consumer, anti-solar net metering regulation that forced SolarCity out of the state in late 2015.
On March 16th, the first solar farm on tribal land in the US was activated. The 250 megawatt Moapa Southern Paiute Solar Project, located on the 112 square mile Moapa River Indian Reservation about 30 miles north of Las Vegas, contains more than 3.2 million solar panels covering 2.2 square miles, enough to power about 111,000 homes.

Apple is serious about solar energy. It has 200 megawatts of installed solar in China and has just announced a partnership with NV Energy to add 200 megawatts in Nevada to power its enormous data center located there.
In the last weeks of 2016, the solar coaster continues its twists and turns in the Southwest, once again producing both good news and bad, with one state learning from experience and taking steps to re-start its solar market, and another succumbing to utilities’ false claims.
It seems that the CSP industry is just steamrolling right past the doubters. In the latest development, the company SolarReserve let out word that it is eyeballing the construction of a 2,000 megawatt CSP plant in Nevada, to be dubbed Sandstone.
