Mercedes says it has committed to purchasing battery cells worth $23 billion between now and 2030. All those cells will be used to build battery packs at factories in Kamenz, Untertuerkheim, and Sindelfingen in Germany, as well as Beijing, Bangkok, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama according to Reuters.
Europeans are in a quandary about whether to build battery factories now or wait for the next generation of solid state batteries to arrive. The decision is not an easy one to make.
Construction work has begun on Daimler subsidiary ACCUMOTIVE’s second electric vehicle battery production facility, which is being built in Kamenz, Germany, the same town where the first one is located.
