As Tesla Model 3 production and sales have grown, I’ve felt more and more inspired to compare the car’s scorecard against that of other models. I intended to update my “Small & Midsize Luxury Car Sales” charts and report this weekend, but then got a bit carried away. As a result, below are 7 sales charts regarding the Tesla Model 3 and some of its wide ranging “competition,” which includes not only small and midsize luxury cars but also some of the most popular, mass-market cars in the United States.

Honda has set a target of two-thirds of its global auto sales to be electrified by 2030, which includes fuel cell vehicles, plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and battery electric vehicles. To build a bridge to this future, Honda continues to shape its cutting edge automotive technologies into a family of production vehicles under the Clarity line. The Clarity line started with Honda’s Clarity FCX, which was the original production Honda Fuel Cell vehicle for the masses and was itself based on the 2006 Honda FCX Concept.

Yes, we have a Model 3 delivery total from Tesla for the quarter as a whole, but the company doesn’t break that down by month or region. For a while, the slowly growing ramp allowed us to estimate without too much difficulty, but a few things changed in May and June.

The Tesla Model 3 continues to open up its lead over every other plug-in car on the US market. For all the hype about a slower than projected Model 3 production ramp up, it seems there isn’t another plug-in vehicle that comes within two laps of touching it. It sits at about triple the sales of the #2 Toyota Prius Prime (a plug-in hybrid) and nearly 4 × the sales of all 7 of BMW Group’s plug-in models combined.
