The transition from internal combustion vehicles to electrified vehicles is shattering business models in automotive manufacturing, the entire global oil industry, and a handful of tangential industries like electricity generation, energy storage, and shipping, among others.
Electric cars — great, fun, quick, clean, smooth, quiet, convenient to charge at home and work. But wait, what’s life like with an electric car? How do you charge? Where do you charge? What do you need to charge? How do you protect the most valuable component of the car — the battery?
GreenLots, an open standard charging network operator, has big plans to bring together public EV charging stations and battery storage with the power of its network and cloud technologies in order to level up EV charging infrastructure in Southeast Asia and North America. Greenlots was originally founded in Singapore in 2008 and has since scaled up into a global EV charging network operator, with operations in 13 countries and offices in North America.
I still find it hard to believe that I am a “early adopter.” Soon, I hope I will not be thinking “Why are there not more EV drivers?” Well, I do thank my lucky stars on this one. Primarily, I thank CleanTechnica.com and EVObsession.com for pointing me to “right drivelihood.” But it’s not just the cars and social support that make the EV movement. There’s an entire “EV ecosystem” in place, and growing.
On February 9, 2015, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) brought forward a proposal to install more than 25,000 EV charging stations within its territory. Readily embraced by environmentalists, the project faced opposition from ratepayers (questioning the value of this investment) and other EV charging service providers (who did not relish direct competition from a utility).
