SoftBank has finally ended months of speculation about its future in India’s renewable energy market.
Leading Indian renewable energy developers are facing a liquidity crunch due to the COVID 19-induced nationwide lockdown and increased competition from emerging players. The country’s debt-ridden discoms are unable to pay off their dues to the generating companies. This has resulted in sharp increase in the sale of operational assets from various large renewable energy generators in the past few months.
Although the capacity addition in India renewable energy sector has slowed down the merger and acquisition space is heating up. A major private renewable energy developer — Mytrah Energy — is being eyed by several companies.
The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board has this week announced it has acquired a 396 megawatt (MW) wind and solar energy portfolio from NextEra Energy Partners for $582.3 million.
