Croatian electric supercar manufacturer Rimac has built a name for itself as a designer and builder of insane 1000+ horsepower electric hypercars, but it has been hard at work behind the scenes on a different strategy altogether — to become the world’s leading OEM supplier for all things electric.
The world’s largest auto manufacturers and parts suppliers are banding together to bring self-driving cars to market as quickly as possible. The scope and complexity of the undertaking means it is more economical to combine forces rather that continue to work toward the goal separately. Bosch and Daimler have recently agreed to work together, and the heads of Porsche and Audi have announced their companies will work more closely together.
The recent Bosch Connected World conference in Berlin saw speeches given by execs from Nvidia, Bosch, and BMW that made it clear just how divergent the companies’ timelines for self-driving vehicle tech are.
As you probably saw, I was one of the keynote speakers at EV-Box’s inaugural rEVolution summit. I noticed ahead of time that the inspiring Engie exec Thierry Lepercq was going to be one of the other speakers, but I did not anticipate the huge news that was to come. At the very end of the summit, EV-Box CEO Kristof Vereenooghe slow-walked us through the announcement, somewhat teasing the audience as he unveiled that EV-Box had just become a part of Engie.
The German automotive parts supplier Bosch has entered into a $327.5 million (~€304 million) settlement agreement with civil suit claimants in the US relating to the company’s involvement in the Volkswagen diesel emissions fraud scandal, according to a press release from the company.
The Chinese firm Munro Motor has revealed an interesting-looking new electric scooter dubbed the Munro 2.0 — capable of up to 30 miles of travel and starting at ~$800 in China. With 2 battery packs, the model features a range of up to 60 miles (reportedly). The most expensive configurations of the model will run ~$1,200.
