Musk Has Had It With Wall Street & The Financial Markets (Good!)
In the Q1 2018 earnings call on Wednesday, there was an Elon Musk who clearly was not in the mood to be nice to Wall Street and the financial press.

I am not a Tesla shareholder, so listening to Elon Musk on the Tesla Q1 2018 conference call was absolutely enthralling to me. You can tell he is really tired of all the Chicken Little’s screaming “the sky is falling!” With mostly good humor, a few stiff interjections, and a hang up, he made plenty of news in the conference call. He gave a very short intro, basically saying that he is finally pleased with production of the Model 3.
Where did we leave off? Right, in beautiful Romania. Since then, the reports we are getting have become somehow more chaotic. It could be the heat, it could be the tiredness, or it could simply be excellent wine. We will never know. Anyway, in the last entry, I said we would save driving on your last kilowatts for later, and here we are.
Multi-family housing poses a unique challenge when it comes to hosting EV charging facilities. It also provides some unique opportunities when it comes to servicing more vehicles in a smaller area as compared to traditional residential or public EV charging stations.
Tesla has announced that is will begin making Autopilot crash data public and will update it quarterly. Releasing that information could support Elon Musk’s claim that Autopilot saves lives.
When Elon Musk first tweeted out an article of mine some years ago, naturally, I was ecstatic. What was also cool is that it sat at the top of his twitter feed for a few weeks and the only other things he had tweeted in a period or 2–3 months directly related to his companies (my article didn’t — it was a more generic solar power article). That’s not how Elon tweets today.
In its Q1 earnings letter, Tesla repeated its claim that its energy storage business will triple in 2018. Powerwall residential battery installations are up and production of the SolarRoof tiles is expected to increase significantly in the second half of 2018.
On the Tesla quarterly conference call today, one questioner couldn’t help asking about Tesla Model Y production. It’s the model millions of people really, really, really want — and since we know so little about it, we are thirsting for information.
In a sign that the company is perhaps not all that happy about Tesla releasing an all-electric semi truck, the Nikola Motor Company has filed a lawsuit against Tesla alleging design patent infringements relating to that product.
As we are receiving regular reports from Tomek and his fellow travelers, we can now put together a few stories from the first couple of days on the road with the Tesla. The most important news is there’s no real news — the first day driving through Poland was simply smooth and easy. There are two reasons behind this: Tesla’s range and GreenWay infrastructure. As Zach was already pointing out in the opening article, GreenWay has done a good job developing a network of fast chargers in Poland and Slovakia. It may still be challenging in a Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe to get from charging point to charging point, but not so in a Tesla.
