At the start of the month, we reported on the fact that after four years of deliberation, the Russian government appeared to finally give support to the Paris Agreement. Not a complete ratification but on the way to it, by all accounts from Russian sources. For many, it felt like a strange turn of events in the face of President Vladimir Putin’s strong denials of global warming, while also proving a step in the right direction toward global consensus on climate change action.

The Republican Party has won the popular vote in a presidential election only one time since 1988. That’s more than 30 years (or 7 elections) with just one popular vote win, which went to George W. Bush, possibly due to an Osama bin Laden video tape that came out 4 days before the election. In 2000, Bush won the electoral college (well, maybe*) despite the fact that Gore got more than half a million more votes. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, but lost the electoral college vote (by fewer than 60,000 votes in key states).

It’s a shame — you’ve got a poor economy almost completely dependent on one industry (the oil industry) that is controlled by corrupt oligarchs, and that country’s totally corrupt president is apparently running foreign policy for what is supposed to be the most powerful nation on earth. It’s like a privileged, educated 20-year-old with kind and thoughtful parents who has fallen under the spell (or control) of a nasty, corrupt, immoral, drug-addicted street thug.

Manufacturing jobs have been lost in key states that swung right to elect Trump. Coal is still a dead industry walking (because it’s not competitive). Funding for military families has been taken from them and redirected to funding for what will be a useless portion of an ineffective, incomplete wall — a wall Mexico is very clearly not paying for. The middle class hasn’t benefited from any Trump-generated manufacturing revival or economic boom. Instead of protecting US national security and improving our global economic position with international partnerships, Trump is trading friendly US policies for personal political help from foreign countries.

Back in 2012, the Moscow Tesla Club was launched. Since then, the club’s founders have been able to deliver more than 350 Teslas (and other electric cars) all over Russia. In addition, they’ve developed charging infrastructure and lobbied local government officials in order to support the EV movement. Recently, the founders of Moscow Tesla Club financed a new website, EV Compare, to further promote EVs.
