This Is A Problem: Donald Trump Loves Dictators, Slams Democracy, Free Press, FBI, CIA, & US War Heroes

It’s a real surprise that some Americans still support Donald Trump. He has vehemently attacked just about everything America is supposed to stand for — democracy, freedom of speech, the rule of law, patriotic heroes of justice, the FBI’s search for justice, former US presidents and vice presidents of both parties, racial equality and religious freedom, decency, honesty, compassion, and love.

Donald Trump is attacking the heart of US democracy while consistently praising murderous, anti-democratic dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. The former has long been considered the USA’s #1 adversary and the latter has ordered the murder of his own family members (brother, uncles, etc.). They’ve also murdered Americans.

Are we seriously living in upside down world these days?

Why does Donald praise dictators while taking a verbal sledgehammer to the cornerstones of the USA’s democratic republic?

Why does Donald obsess over power and enriching himself rather than bringing health care and jobs to millions of Americans? (Even with Republicans in full control of Congress, Trump did very little legislatively, basically only cutting taxes on the super wealthy and damaging the health care system that was launched under Obamacare.)

I think there are a few reasons Donald does these things. One is that he is absolutely clueless about the US democratic system, why it is valuable, why we have democratic rather than dictatorial allies, and how much he is harming his own legacy by looking up to Putin instead of Lincoln, Jefferson, JFK, or Obama.

Another is that he simply doesn’t care about other people. His long business history conning people, stiffing contractors, stealing from charities, committing fraud, laundering money for mobsters, cheating on his wives, and rudely demeaning people showed that well enough, but nothing has revealed it as much as his time in the White House.

A third reason is that all he cares about is his own branding, so he’ll praise anyone who praises him. He easily falls prey to the manipulation of people who want to trick the US into doing their bidding, and he models himself after people who have king-like roles in their societies since he wants the same. Due to the fact that Trump is what everything America is supposed to not be, honorable Americans and allies won’t praise him. The people who will praise him are people who don’t care about our values, equality, democracy, or compassion. In other words, inhumane dictatorial authoritarians and their supporters are happy to praise him — hence the whole international arena getting flipped on its head.

The dirty little secret is that it’s not only Trump playing this game. He just does it most blatantly, but Republican politicians have been standing by silently while Trump sides with our enemies, attacks our democracy, attacks the FBI & CIA, attacks war heroes, attacks freedom of the press and freedom of speech, attacks freedom of religion and age-old American ideals of an open society, and even attacks the free markets. Republican politicians have essentially made a deal with the devil. They let Trump get away with everything in exchange for tax cuts for the super rich, non-progressive judges, and … well … some money from Russian oligarchs who attacked our democracy.

No, it’s not a conspiracy theory — it happened. The head of the Republican Party in the Senate got millions of dollars invested in his Kentucky district from the #1 Russian oligarch tied to now-imprisoned former Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort.

Yes, believe it or not, the Mueller investigation was not a witch hunt and did put people in prison who had clearly colluded with Russian oligarchs to influence US policy. No, “collusion” isn’t a crime and Manafort is in prison for all kinds of financial crimes — but they are largely tied to his work for a former Ukrainian prime minister who fled to Russia when a civil war erupted in response to his tremendous corruption and pillaging of the Ukrainian economy.

This is the guy Trump had running his campaign for a while. This is the kind of guy Donald Trump works with. And the Russian oligarch tied to Manafort is now also the kind of guy Mitch McConnell works with.

Why won’t Republicans hold Donald Trump accountable for crimes against the United States? One reason might be that other top Republicans are also now accepting (inviting?) help from anti-democratic Russian oligarchs. Perhaps it is because Republican politicians have never really cared about patriotism, the rule of law, the economy, or your health — just funneling more money to the super rich (them and their friends) and gaining or retaining as much power as possible.

Democrats routinely work to improve the health of all American citizens (by cutting air pollution, for example), work to increase the health care of American citizens, work to improve the oversight and regulation of big banks eager to scam American citizens and take risks with our economy, and work to raise the wages of working class Americans. Republicans are hell bent on throwing obstacles in the paths of all of those efforts. Since taking control of the House of Representatives, Democrats have passed many bills on these topics. However, they have all died on the Senate floor, which is under the control of Republican Mitch McConnell. Yes, that is the same Mitch McConnell mentioned in the video above.

Good luck, USA. We’re going to need it as long as common working Americans are tricked into voting for super rich elitist Republicans who care more than anything else about 1) cutting taxes on the richest Americans, 2) cutting American citizen protections and benefits, and 3) gaining or maintaining political power.
