Comparison Between Tesla Model S, Cybertruck, & Porsche Taycan

November 28th, 2019 | by Johnna Crider

A comparison between the Tesla Model S, Tesla Cybertruck, and Porsche Taycan was created in an infographic shared by Twitter user Serious Callers Only. The comparison shows the difference not just in price range for these three electric vehicles, but also range and acceleration. It shows that the Cybertruck is the lowest priced of the three. That is despite its enormous size and range

Open The Plug-In Hybrid Floodgates! Germany EV Sales Report

November 17th, 2019 | by Jose Pontes

Something clicked in the German plug-in vehicle market after the summer holidays. The market had a record month (9,452 registrations) in September, and then October came and set a new record, this time 26% above the previous one! 11,926 plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) were registered, more than doubling last year's result. With China's PEV market in post-subsidy blues, this is a welcome boost to global sales. Now if only the US market helped to carry the burden

French EV Market Up 65%, Finally Some Reshuffling!

November 17th, 2019 | by Jose Pontes

The French plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market had 6,433 registrations in October, up 65% year over year (YoY). Interestingly, this time, it was the plug-in hybrids (+118%) pulling the market up the most, with BEVs growing "just" 53%

Hyundai Kona EV Wins The Netherlands In Slow Month — EV Sales Report

November 7th, 2019 | by Jose Pontes

After a memorable month of September, the plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) markets in the Netherlands slowed down significantly, growing just 37% in September, with 2,776 registrations, translating into a PEV share of 8.1% in October. That keeps the 2019 PEV share at a record 10%

Tesla Model S Plaid Prototype Laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:13

November 5th, 2019 | by Dr. Maximilian Holland

Respected German publication Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that the Tesla Model S Plaid prototype has been hand-timed lapping the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 13 seconds, according to the outlet's local source. Adjusting for race-compound tires, this puts the Tesla around 19 seconds ahead of the Taycan Turbo's 7:42 lap time reported by Porsche in August. It's also faster than every gas-powered 4-door series production car 'round the 'ring

Polestar Pricing … Electric Mazda … Tesla Model 3 = #6 In USA — CleanTechnica Top 20

November 4th, 2019 | by Zachary Shahan

The most popular CleanTechnica stories of October were led by Polestar and Mazda. Seriously. No offense to Polestar or Mazda (okay, some offense to Polestar and Mazda), but I wouldn't have seen that coming a mile away. Does this show a great thirst for more EV news beyond Tesla and more serious EV entries? Possibly. Or it was just some lucky timing and catchy headlines. Or all of the above. In any case, that's where things landed in October. Tesla still dominated the top 20, with 15 out of 20 stories, but it was an interesting phenomenon to see the company almost pushed out of the top

Electric Mazda … Porsche vs. Tesla Launchonanza … Gold-Free Perovskite Solar — CleanTechnica Top 20

November 3rd, 2019 | by Zachary Shahan

Mazda? Mazda? A possibly lame-ass electrification effort from Mazda? Yes, apparently, that was somehow our most popular article of the week last week here on CleanTechnica. Will more than 100,000 people consider — let alone buy — the electric Mazda? I doubt it! But they'll read about it. (Granted, Tina's headline must have been part of the appeal, and I did think from the headline the car was going to be edible in some way.)

Aluminum-Air Battery … Chevy Bolt & Hyundai Kona vs. Tesla Model 3 Sales … The Mistake Of Buying A Tesla Competitor — CleanTechnica Top 20

October 28th, 2019 | by Zachary Shahan

The most popular CleanTechnica stories of the past week were led by a (somewhat wild) claim of an aluminum-air battery breakthrough. Yup, really. After that, it was almost all Tesla — Tesla Model 3 sales compared to other top EV sales, buying a gas "luxury car" competitor to a Tesla, Tesla disruption in Norway, Elon Musk and Tesla proving naysayers wrong, a Tesla fire, Tesla software updates

Aptera’s Green Recipe May Break Real Outlaw Speed Records

October 26th, 2019 | by Jennifer Sensiba

Aptera was big news almost a decade ago, but failed to make it to production. Now, it's back and has bigger plans than ever. Not only does the company plan on building the original vehicle, but it's also aiming for 1,000 miles of range on a charge. On top of that, Aptera is hoping to add enough solar power to cover the daily driving needs of most American drivers without plugging the car in at all

Thanks, Tesla — Porsche Taycan EV Outperforms Fossil Panamera Sibling

October 20th, 2019 | by Dr. Maximilian Holland

The Porsche Taycan offers much higher performance "bang for the buck" compared to its gas-powered Panamera sedan sibling. This applies across the board — the new Taycan 4s variant provides faster acceleration than the Panamera GTS whilst being 20% less expensive, and the Turbo and Turbo S variants significantly outperform their more expensive Panamera siblings. Surely some mistake by Porsche

The Porsche Taycan Premiere, From A Tesla Owner’s Perspective

October 18th, 2019 | by Guest Contributor

Porsche earns points for style and making its grand entry into the EV world amongst an impressive backdrop. The goal of the day, and the time since that day, was to find out what the Taycan is built for and what the Porsche mission is with it. Gas and diesel vehicles still have a place in the product line, including hybrid models, so is the Taycan seen by Porsche as a corner jewel in the case or as a foundational stone for an eventual 100% electric Porsche lineup

Tesla Model 3 = #1 In EV Sales In Germany In Record Month — CleanTechnica EV Sales Report

October 18th, 2019 | by Jose Pontes

The German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market continues on the fast track in September, having scored a new record, 9,452 registrations, which doubles last year's result. Fully electric vehicles (BEVs) were up 150% year over year (YoY), and this time plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) were also helping (+51%), allowing the PEV share to reach a record 3.9% share last month. BEVs alone hit a best ever, 2.4%. That pulled the 2019 plug-in share to 2.7% (1.7% BEV)

Porsche & Boeing Sign An Agreement To Work On “Premium” eVTOL Aircraft

October 18th, 2019 | by Nicolas Zart

Some big news this week is that Boeing and Porsche have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to look into the "premium" electric vertical takeoff & landing (eVTOL) aircraft market. Porsche says it wants to design a premium eVTOL aircraft and Boeing has aerodynamic expertise — hence the connection. The news introduces a few key turning points with both automakers and aviation. Both of these companies are established players and are feeling the media heat from aviation and road vehicle startups. I’m excited because I've been waiting for the convergence of road and air for the past three years

Porsche Taycan 4S Launched — More Affordable At ~$100,000, Smaller Battery

October 17th, 2019 | by Guest Contributor

Porsche has just announced a new Taycan variant named the "Taycan 4S." The German automaker is making the model a bit more affordable and perhaps aims to give a tougher time to Tesla Model S sales now that Porsche Taycan production is in full swing at the company’s purpose-built Zuffenhausen factory
