EVgo Explores Potential Of Second-Life EV Batteries At Fast Charging Stations

Second-life batteries are all the rage in the clean tech space right now as companies rush to define new business models that maximize the effort put into the initial construction of the battery, as well as the value extracted throughout their primary, secondary, and maybe tertiary use cases. EVgo has announced that it is getting into the game as well, with the addition of second-life batteries to its grid-tied public fast charging systems.

The Fun Of ChargePoint EV Charging

First of all, yes, charging on other EV charging networks is certainly fun as well. In the US, there are several other networks — like EVgo, Blink, and Greenlots — that I’m sure are fun to use. In Europe, I know from personal experience that GreenWay and Fastned are great. But when it comes to daily EV life in Sarasota, Florida, ChargePoint is king — and I’m sure that’s the case in a large number of cities across the country.

Blink Network Founder and Executive Chairman Michael Farkas Talks Public Charging (CleanTechnica Exclusive)

There are two primary segments of the public charging market that charging network operators are looking to tap. One segment of the market is all about “filling up” on the go. These operators want to help you charge up as fast as possible, much like gas stations do for gas cars. They’ll be built along expressways and at freeway entrances and exits. They’ll sport the highest speeds possible. In the US, evGo and ChargePoint are very much leaning into DC fast charging. In the US, there are companies like Greenway and Fastned.

The Honda Clarity Electric Is The Family Friendly EV We Have Longed For, But It…

Honda is finally starting to move into electric vehicles with its Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, and just a few days ago, Honda brought the Honda Clarity Electric to dealerships in California and Oregon. We spent a week with the fully electric flavor of the Clarity family and came away loving some parts of it … and not so excited about other aspects. Let’s start with the specs.

How To Find EV Charging Stations, How Charging Works

Plug-in vehicle drivers have more options than ever when it comes time to find a plug-in vehicle charging outlet. In the US, charging network operators such as ChargePoint and EVgo have developed robust smartphone apps that make finding a station within the network easy. In other countries, there are often similar networks with their own apps for local drivers.
