The fourth annual GEA International Geothermal Energy Showcase concluded Wednesday, May 23, in Washington DC. The conference featured countries and projects in 6 different regions of the world: Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Turkey, Latin America, the Caribbean, and East Africa. Presentations by corporate and country leaders, for many of the projects, were very similar, but a few had unique challenges. Solar Electric Light Fund Launches Campaign: “Energy is a Human Right”

There are many who believe nearly 1.5 billion people in the world who live without access to modern forms of energy should have a voice to affect change for the better. Among those with the mission: the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF). The nonprofit has been working to eliminate energy poverty through the use of solar power and today it announced the launch of “Energy is a Human Right,” a campaign showing support for those living in energy poverty.

Google made a big news splash this week, announcing it was partnering with KKR to invest in four California solar power projects, but that was only one of many newsworthy stories that broke. Among them are plans to develop an East Coast grid to carry power from offshore wind farms, BP Solar quitting the business after 40 years, a second German solar power industry player filing for insolvency and a second solar investment by Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway’s Mid-American Energy.

Lemnis Lighting’s “Buy One, Give One” Holiday Promotion Brings Solar LED Lighting to Rural Zambians

Together with nonprofit Empowered by Light, SF’s Lemnis Lighting is bringing clean, renewable energy efficient solar LED lighting to rural villagers in Zambia who lack access to electricity. Lemnis is running an innovative “buy one, give one” promotion throughout December in which it matches every Pharox Solar Kit purchase with a donation to Empowered by Light’s Solar: Zambia program.
