Some might say this has been a slow news week for Tesla. There were only 122 articles this week and the average over the past 9 weeks is around 190. This slow news week, however, is quite artificial. It’s a choice, because there was plenty of news that the mainstream media just decided to not report at all or only briefly cover.
I’ve had a lot of fun recently while highlighting 50 “tips” for slowing the electric car revolution and writing about what the end of gasmobiles could look like, but the discussions left some people scratching their heads. Why would automakers conscientiously try to delay a switch to electric vehicles? Why would they not try to create attractive electric cars once they were shown how popular Tesla’s models have been?
Comparisons between Tesla and Apple are nothing new, but with the Silicon Valley automaker poised for a new wave of growth, it’s a good time to revisit the parallels between the two disruptive companies. A recent article from ARK Investment Management explains the similarities in eerie detail.
Electric vehicles are gaining traction in China. Daniel Ren (via South China Morning Post) writes, “While US maker Tesla often grabs the headlines … BYD and peers like Beijing Auto and Roewe are quietly selling enough electric vehicles (EVs) to make China the world’s largest market for both electric and conventional vehicles. In fact, sales of EVs in China reached 770,000 units last year.”
