About Tobias Engelmeier

Tobias Engelmeier is working towards a low carbon world. He believes that this is a great opportunity rather than a sacrifice and that it will be driven by business and economic fundamentals rather than by political directive. Developing countries, who can still make a choice about their future energy infrastructure, are in a particularly good position to get the most out of the renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions available. The good news is: A global energy transition is inevitable. The bad news is: current market designs in most countries are not conducive enough and could delay this inevitable transition for just too long to save our climate. So that is what we need to work on: better market designs. (Disclaimer: views in motion...) Companies I am involved with: TFE Consulting (www.tfeconsulting.com) www.bridgetoindia.com (sustainability solutions for India), www.indiagoessolar.com (helping consumer go solar in India), www.gridhub.com (the business platform for the global renewables industry).

It is within reach, if we just bundle our technological and entrepreneurial might

The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that as many as 220 million sub-Saharan Africans will gain access to electricity through micro-grids by 2040. This translates into a deployment of 100,000 – 200,000 systems or a market opportunity upwards of $1bn. A pretty clear call to arms for the business community, it seems

Building Climate-Friendly Cities (In A Factory!)

November 10th, 2016 | by Tobias Engelmeier

Over the next 30 years we will be building a new urban habitat for about a third of the world's population. The way we will build those cities will lock in certain lifestyles and emissions for decades to come. Therefore, we have to do it intelligently: in a way that is inexpensive, provides comfort and safety, saves local resources and keeps the climate impact low

Cleantech Competition In The Age of Digitalization

November 10th, 2016 | by Tobias Engelmeier

Everyone is fully on board with the idea that the digital future is a central part of the future of their industries. They expect enormous changes, new business opportunities and new competitors. There seems to be a consensus that this is a new animal that requires an approach that is different. So far, so good. Yet, most are quite unsure about the specific likely implications and the best approach to take moving forward. There is a sense of gambling, a sense that traditional strategy development will not apply
