Well, after the US burned, torched, and bombed its bridges to its neighbor to the north, Canada, the Great White North decided to open up its trade with China a bit further. One key way it is doing so is by welcoming Chinese made electric vehicles, rather than trying to block them. Now, one of the biggest Chinese automakers overall, Geely Auto, is preparing to bring EVs from its main brand to the country.

Those of you who follow this industry closely know that Volvo Cars and Polestar are also under the gigantic Geely Auto umbrella. So, considering that, it may not seem like a huge deal that Geely electric cars are going to be sold in Canada, but it’s notable since Geely is a Chinese brand and the cars will have been produced in China.

The first Geely cars available to consumers in Canada will be coming in 2027. Right now, the company is laying the retail, service, and infrastructure foundation for a commercial launch.

So, which Geely models will be available in Canada? We don’t know yet.

China and Canada agreed earlier this year (in January) that 49,000 made-in-China EVs a year could be imported into Canada at a friendly tariff rate of 6.1% (a sharp departure from the additional 100% tariff the country had put on EVs in late 2024). That’s a fairly large number for the Canadian auto market, but Chinese companies still have to move fast in order to try to build a strong presence and mock up market share.

So, we now have a few questions: Which models will Geely bring to Canada? How well will they do there? And which Chinese auto brands will be coming next?
