Publish Your Book Through CleanTechnica Press

Support CleanTechnica's work through a Substack subscription, on Patreon, or on Stripe. Help us produce all of the high-quality, original content we publish week after week despite the challenges of content-scraping AI, antisocial media, inflation, and other hurdles.

Authors writing a book about clean energy technologies, if you’re interested in working with CleanTechnica Press, we are officially going to start taking submissions for books to produce.

We’ve launched CleanTechnica Press with my latest book, Outta Gas. We are of course promoting the book through CleanTechnica.com, our newsletter, and our social media channels, and it’s selling nicely.

If you’ve ever thought about writing your own book about sustainable business and clean technologies, now is a great time! The topic is hot, and it is only gonna get more important and interesting over the next few years. CleanTechnica Press stands by to work with you as your publisher. You don’t need an agent, just a really great book.

What you get:

  • Design and print services.
  • Promotion via CleanTechnica.com.
  • The notoriety of being a published author through an official platform, rather than self-published.

We will start with one book this autumn, so if you want to submit yours for publication, here’s the process:

  • Go to our contact form.
  • Enter “I want to publish my book through CleanTechnica Press,” and then follow the prompts to tell us about your book. Be clear about the who, what, when, where, and why — make your case for us to consider your book.
  • If it’s in our wheelhouse and we see the potential, we might email you for more information. This will include sending us two relatively polished sample chapters that we can read to get a sense of your style and insights. We’ll also ask you for a marketing plan. How will you market the book? Will you do a book tour? If so, where, and how? Do you have a significant following online or in person?
  • We won’t be able to publish everything that comes in, so be patient and be understanding if we do not get back to you. No offense is meant, we are just very busy.
  • If selected, we will charge you a fee to design, print, and distribute your book. That fee will vary a little based on the length and complexity, but as a ballpark, it’ll be an upfront cost of $3,000–$5,000 and then a percent of each book sold. Keep in mind that we’ll be very selective, and we’ll only print one book at a time. We’ll be promoting your book and selling it for you to our audience.

We will be hosting a Google Hangout next week — Wednesday, September 30, 1:00 PM PST/4:00 PM EST — for anyone who is interested/curious. Mark your calendars!

Scott Cooney

Scott Cooney (LinkedIn) is a serial eco-entrepreneur focused on making the world a better place for all its residents. Scott is the founder of CleanTechnica and was just smart enough to hire someone smarter than him to run it. He then started Pono Home, a service that greens homes, which has performed efficiency retrofits on more than 20,000 homes and small businesses, reducing carbon pollution by more than 27 million pounds a year and saving customers more than $6.3 million a year on their utilities. Scott wanted to contribute to native ownership of the clean energy revolution, so he gifted Pono Home to a long tenured employee with native Hawaiian roots for just the liquidation value, turning down a mainland company interested in purchasing the company. In a previous life, Scott was an adjunct professor of Sustainability in the MBA program at the University of Hawai'i, a consultant at Saatchi & Saatchi S, where he worked with a team to educate and empower millions of employees to live healthier and more sustainably. He is the author of Build a Green Small Business: Profitable Ways to Become an Ecopreneur (McGraw-Hill) , and Green Living Ideas. Scott is an occasional investor, currently he has investments in Rivian (RIVN).
