LA Metro Secures 220 New Battery-Electric Transit Buses

LOS ANGELES — Today, LA Metro approved the purchase of 220 battery-electric buses, one of the largest electric transit bus purchases in the country and a major step towards Metro accelerating implementation of its zero-emission bus commitment to 100% electric buses. The 220-bus purchase will more than double the number of electric buses in Metro’s fleet.
The purchase comes as Los Angeles prepares to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and represents an important investment in cleaner, quieter public transportation that will benefit riders and communities long after the Games are over.
In response to today’s announcement, Sierra Club Clean Transportation for All Campaign Organizer Jennifer Cardenas released the following statement:
“LA Metro’s approval of 220 battery-electric buses is a major win for cleaner air, healthier communities, and an electric transportation future. We applaud Metro for taking this important step toward delivering on its zero-emission bus commitment. Zero-emission transit is a smart investment as families look for cleaner, more affordable ways to get around.
“As Metro accelerates its zero-emission transition, it must ensure these investments create good, family-sustaining union jobs by upholding strong labor standards. This is the kind of progress California and the nation need to see more of.”
