Another EV Bites the Dust in USA

There’s no doubt about it — the Republican decision to kill electric vehicle incentives and end automaker fuel economy and CO2 emission requirements has hurt the US EV market. EV sales have dropped, major new EV production investments have been dropped, and EV models are even being pulled from the market. That now includes the Volvo EX30.

Volvo’s US dealers have been notified that the EX30 has been cancelled. This follows announcements that the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Hyundai IONIQ 6 are being pulled from the US market, as well as Honda’s decision to kill three EV models it hadn’t even started producing.

With 100% tariffs on EVs built in China, the EX30 suffered from very high prices for the size of the vehicle and what you get with it — a starting price around $50,000 initially, and $40,000 later on. The model just wasn’t going to take off in America.

However, Volvo Cars is still looking to sell electric cars in the USA, the larger EX60 and EX90. And, after all, Americans do like their large vehicles….
