Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Sell Cybercab to Customers for $30,000 or Less This Year

When Tesla showed off its Cybercab concept vehicle in October 2024 at its “We, Robot” event, the question was when this would actually get produced. Another question was whether it would really be sold for $30,000 or less. After all, the Cybertruck was revealed at much lower pricing per range than it ever ended up costing — much lower. Additionally, the Cybercab is designed for and based on Tesla being able to implement true self-driving, which Tesla is several years late on after missing its targets year after year after year after year after year after year.

So, after the event, famed tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD) said that while it was an impressive concept, he could not see the vehicle being sold to customers for under $30,000 before 2027, as Tesla was targeting. In fact, he was so certain it wouldn’t be that he said he’d shave his head on camera if it was. (Not the biggest wager, but not something he’d apparently like to do.)

According to statements from Elon Musk on X yesterday, MKBHD will indeed have to shave his head. That said, until Tesla actually delivers, we’ll see, and MKBHD can keep his hair.

The updates come after Tesla posted a picture yesterday of the first Cybercab coming off the production line in its Texas factory. Here are the key posts:

So, are sales of the Cybercab coming, and for under $30,000? That’s the idea.

Of course, the Cybercab is supposed to be produced without a steering wheel or pedals, so one would need to subscribe to Full Self Driving (Unsupervised) to be able to use it, and Full Self Driving (Unsupervised) would have to be a thing that people can buy and use.
