EV Charging Stations in Manila to Be Made “Sustainable and Convenient”

“A sustainable and convenient EV lifestyle is only possible with the efficiency of the tools and infrastructure that support it.”

This was the sentiment shared by Paulo Canivel, general manager of charging technology company Evro, at a press conference and signing of an agreement with Shell Pilipinas. The agreement would provide “improved EV charging experiences” in the Philippines.

The Evro–Shell collaboration allows users to access Shell’s chargers and those of other networks through a single platform. Select Shell Recharge stations are now live on the Evro app. Full nationwide integration is expected by September.

Evro describes itself as the Philippines’ first brand-agnostic e-Mobility Service Provider (eMSP). Developed to address a fragmented EV charging ecosystem which often requires multiple applications and payment methods, the Evro app enables users to locate, access, monitor, and pay for charging sessions from various providers, including both partners and non-partners. Through this integration, Evro connects users to Shell Recharge’s 30 charging point network. Evro aims to remove operational silos between charge point operators (CPOs).

The initial rollout includes ten Shell charging locations, which are now available on the Evro app. These locations include Shell SLEX Mamplasan, Laguna (two 180kW DC, 2 22kW AC charge points), Shell TPLEX Rosario Exit, La Union (two 180kW DC, 2 22kW AC charge points), and Shell Recharge Destination Locations such as Seven | Neo (two 22kW AC charge points), Estancia Mall (four 22kW AC charge points), Greenhills — Connecticut (two 22kW AC charge points), Greenhills — Missouri (four 22kW AC charge points), Opus Mall (four 22kW AC charge points), Robinsons Manila (two 22kW AC charge points), Robinsons Galleria (two 22kW AC charge points), and Robinsons Magnolia (two 22kW AC charge points).

The adoption of the Department of Energy (DoE)–approved Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) standard is intended to ensure interoperability between the systems of Evro and Shell. Both companies are working to address challenges such as confusing charging options and multiple app requirements, with the goal of facilitating the transition to electric vehicles for Filipino consumers.
