XPENG’s newest model, the G7, has just hit the market. It’s currently available for pre-order, and there are also models available to touch and see in XPENG’s 530 stores in 214 Chinese cities.

Anyway, before I bury the lede, probably the biggest note is the one in the headline. It took just 46 minutes for XPENG to score 10,000 pre-orders for the G7.

The G7’s starting price is RMB 235,800 ($32,870), a pretty stunning price for a high-tech SUV, one with 800V architecture and 5C superfast charging. Oh yeah, and it has 702 kilometers (436 miles) of range on a full charge according to the CLTC testing cycle (so probably a bit less in the real world, but still…). It’s also the first XPENG to use the company’s new Turing AI chip — in the Ultra trim, that is; in the Max trim, the vehicle still uses the Nvidia Orin X chip.

“The G7 Ultra has an effective computing power of over 2,200 TOPS, making it the world’s first AI car to achieve L3 computing power, Xpeng announced yesterday,” CnEVPost writes. The new car also has a new head-up display (HUD) developed jointly by XPENG and Huawei.

The vehicle’s dimensions are:

  • length: 4,892 mm
  • width: 1,925 mm
  • height: 1,655 mm
  • wheelbase: 2,890 mm

So, it sits between the G6 and the G9 in size and pricing, but closer to the G9’s prices. “G6 currently has a starting price range of RMB 176,800 to RMB 198,800 in China, while G9 ranges from RMB 248,800 to RMB 278,800,” CnEVPost adds.

The G7 will, no doubt, be popular. How popular? That’s the question. Stay tuned for Jose Pontes’ monthly China EV sales reports.
