The Kia EV3 compact electric SUV is the 57th car to earn the title of The Car of the Year in Denmark. It was followed closely by the Skoda Elroq in second place, and the Renault Scenic (which was named The Car of the Year in Europe in the spring) in third place.

This is the first time in the 57-year history of the award that Kia has won the Danish title. Though, the Korean car brand won Car of the Year in Europe in 2022 with the bigger EV6.

Automotive Editor at the Association of Danish Motorists (FDM) Søren W. Rasmussen thinks the Kia EV3 is a worthy winner and a natural representative of the progress of EVs right now.

“Electric cars have now come down in price, and with a starting price of DKK 270,000 ($38,250), the Kia EV3 is in a price range where a large share of Danes are expected to buy a new electric car in the future. For that price, you get a very well-equipped car with a range of 435 km (270 miles), that can charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. Overall, this makes it a real Danish car.”

This was the 5th year in a row that an EV won the title of Car of the Year in Denmark, and the first time ever that all contestants were fully electric!

Car of the Year in Denmark is chosen by a jury of 20 motoring journalists. The prestigious award has been awarded every year since 1969.

The points were given as follows:

  1. Kia EV3: 134 points
  2. Skoda Elroq: 131 points
  3. Renault Scenic: 120 points
  4. Hyundai Inster: 75 points
  5. Ford Explorer: 44 points
  6. Cupra Tavascan: 40 points
  7. Xpeng G6: 21 points
  8. Polestar 4: 20 points
  9. Peugeot 3008/5008: 15 points

Jesper had his perspective on the world expanded vastly after having attended primary school in rural Africa in the early 1980s. And while educated a computer programmer and laboratory technician, working with computers and lab-robots at the institute of forensic medicine in Aarhus, Denmark, he never forgets what life is like having nothing. Thus it became obvious for him that technological advancement is necessary for the prosperity of all humankind, sharing this one vessel we call planet earth. However, technology has to be smart, clean, sustainable, widely accessible, and democratic in order to change the world for the better. Writing about clean energy, electric transportation, energy poverty, and related issues, he gets the message through to anyone who wants to know better.
