A New Grant Program From State Bicycle Is Funding Indie Cycling Films

A new grant program will be providing cash and gear (and bikes) to a handful of independent filmmakers to help bring unique cycling stories to life, which will then be featured in the State Bicycle Co. Presents film series. The first film, “Mystery Tour: Bikepacking Through Japan,” follows four friends on an “unpredictable” adventure across Japan, and is embedded below at the end of this post.
Arizona-based State Bicycle Co. has been producing single-speeds, fixies, city bikes, gravel and road bikes, and more (such as frames and parts), since its inception in 2009, and its “Rider-Developed” limited edition models are not only high quality, but affordable, and they look as good as they perform. The company, which was built by cyclists for cyclists, is on a mission “to cultivate a community of riders who value adventure, creativity, and a love for life on two wheels.” In a world where it seems like there’s a new e-bike company being launched just about every day on the internet, State’s continued focus on producing non-electric (acoustic) traditional-style fixed-gear and single-speed models, among others, is quite refreshing.
The inspiration behind the grant program is directly related to experiences from the early days of the company. “When we started out, we’d film our own rides and adventures just for fun. Watching films like “Macaframa” and “MASH” got us so hyped on bikes and the creative potential of what could be done with cycling. Now, we want to give back and support other filmmakers who are pushing the boundaries and sharing their passion with the world,” according to Mehdi Farsi, co-founder of State Bicycle Co.
Applications for the State Bicycle Co. Presents Grant will be accepted from October 10th through December 1st, 2024, and up to 5 filmmakers will receive cash awards “up to $5000 and gear (including bicycles and other equipment)” to help bring their visions to life.
