GRIDSERVE Opens Two New Electric Super Hubs In UK’s North East

Two new Electric Super Hubs at Moto Washington North and South on the A1(M) have opened, according to GRIDSERVE and Moto, allowing for quick, reliable charging on one of the busiest roads in the UK. Six 350kW-capable high-power chargers are included in each of the Electric Super Hubs, expanding the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway network’s 160+ stations.

All GRIDSERVE Electric Hubs include both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, accept contactless payment, and offer real-time status updates to a variety of well-liked EV charging maps in order to make it as simple as possible for consumers to charge their EV. The chargers assist GRIDSERVE’s mission to combat climate change because they are fueled by 100% net zero carbon energy produced by the company’s innovative hybrid solar + battery farms.

Since 2021, the partnership has installed more than 320 EV charging stations, including 142 high-power EV charging stations spread across 18 locations. As the number of electric vehicle owners continues to rise quickly before the ban on new gasoline and diesel cars in 2030, GRIDSERVE and Moto are committed to upgrading the EV charging infrastructure across the UK.

Its most recent Electric Super Hub reinforces GRIDSERVE’s commitment to expanding and consolidating the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway together with the company’s two globally renowned Electric Forecourts® in Norwich and Braintree, with a third set to open at Gatwick Airport in 2023.

Toddington Harper, CEO of GRIDSERVE, said: “We are thrilled to open our next Electric Super Hubs at both Washington North and Southbound. As the demand for electric vehicles and charging increases, it is vital we continue this pace to roll out the installation of High Power chargers to support EV drivers and those making the switch to electric. We look forward to continuing our expansion and installing hundreds more High Power chargers across the network.”

Moto Chief Executive Ken McMeikan said: “As the largest UK Motorway Services Operator, we are continuing our mission to transform the UK’s rest stop experience and reducing range anxiety by revolutionizing the EV charging experience for motorists on motorways is at the heart of our plans. We’re delighted to be able to continue our roll-out of the High Power charging Hubs and we will be opening many more hubs at our Motorway Service Areas across the country throughout the remainder of this year.”

Currently there are high-power GRIDSERVE Electric Super Hubs located at the following Moto service areas:

  • Moto Rugby (11 High Power chargers)
  • Moto Swansea (6 High Power chargers)
  • Moto Exeter (12 High Power chargers)
  • Moto Burton-in-Kendal (6 High Power chargers)

GRIDSERVE seems to be installing charging systems in the right locations to provide charging throughout the electric highway network. We recently covered the Braintree Electric Forecourt opening here on CleanTechnica, which is pretty impressive. Hopefully, GRIDSERVE will install a lot more high-power chargers in the near future to keep up with the demand for convenient, reliable, and fast EV charging across the UK.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
