Genesis Announces EV Sales Expansion Into More US States

Genesis (Hyundai’s luxury brand, which is great because the normal Hyundais have increased in quality tremendously over the years) had several interesting announcements this month. We’ve already discussed two ways that it is working to increase EV sales (which I’ll recap below), but there’s one more thing it’s doing that’s putting the icing on that sales cake: expanding sales into more states.

Sales Expansion

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that EVs don’t always get sold in every state. A vehicle can get announced and be available for sale in the United States, but that doesn’t mean that it’s for sale everywhere. Sometimes, a vehicle is primarily only available in ZEV states, or in states where EVs are already popular and better supported (ex. California). So, it’s great news to hear that Hyundai not only admits that they’re not for sale at every Genesis dealer, but that they’re working to expand availability.

Genesis has announced an expansion of electric vehicle sales in the United States. The brand is now offering its EV lineup of cars at select retailers in 15 states, providing customers with more choice and access to sustainable transportation options. This move marks a milestone as Genesis moves towards its commitment for a more sustainable future, aiming for an all-electric lineup by the year 2030.

Genesis has announced the availability of the GV60 SUV, Electrified GV70 SUV, and Electrified G80 executive sedan for sale at select retailers in 15 states across America. These models are now available in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

“This expansion of EV sales in the United States marks a significant milestone in our journey towards an all-electric lineup by 2030,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “We are pleased to now be offering our award-winning lineup of electric vehicles to a much broader audience of American customers.”

Other Things Hyundai Is Doing To Grow EV Sales

Last week, Hyundai made two big announcements related to its Genesis GV70 electric SUV. These announcements reveal how Hyundai is working towards increasing the sales of EVs and making them more accessible to consumers. So, once these new states start getting EVs, there’s a plan and some ideas in place to get them into driveways.

The first is a new advertising campaign for the GV70.

Genesis recently launched its “Keep Beginning” advertising campaign to celebrate the debut of the Electrified GV70 SUV to a new generation of consumers. This campaign encapsulates the spirit of Genesis, which lies in its DNA — an emotion associated with anticipation, optimism, excitement, nervousness and mystery that comes with starting something new. It’s also a reminder that potential is boundless at the very beginning of any journey.

Hyundai believes that “Keep Beginning” speaks to many moments throughout the lifecycle of a vehicle. This includes the inception of a design, when the car rolls off the production line, and when someone experiences their first Genesis vehicle. Each moment is an opportunity for thrilling new beginnings. Through this campaign, Genesis encourages and inspires people to never give up, as by continuing to keep beginning again (aka “Genesis”), you are never done.

“The exhilaration of driving a GV70 is like experiencing something for the first time, every time, and that is core to the Genesis brand,” said Wendy Orthman, executive director of marketing at Genesis Motor America. “The ‘Keep Beginning’ campaign celebrates the emotion of starting something new and setting out into the unknown. We hope the passionate creators we featured in the campaign will inspire others to seek out their own new beginnings.”

Hyundai’s “Keep Beginning” campaign is a great way to reach out to adventurous people who are willing to take risks or try something new. It resonates particularly strongly with those outside of their comfort zone, as Genesis is offering something that’s new and daring for many buyers.

The second thing it is doing to boost sales is a partnership with Electrify America.

Just a few days after the launch of Hyundai’s “Keep Beginning” campaign, Electrify America and Genesis Motor America joined forces to offer an incredible opportunity for the first buyers of the 2023 luxury Electrified GV70 SUV. This includes three years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions — a great incentive for those looking to jump into the electric vehicle market.

“Through our collaborations with leading automakers such as Genesis, we continue to build trust and help advance the electric vehicle revolution through hyper-fast charging experiences for EV drivers,” said Rob Barrosa, vice president technology of Electrify America. “By providing three years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions to new GV70 owners, we’re taking a step closer to creating an electric transportation future that benefits both drivers and communities across the U.S.”

The Electrify America mobile app makes it easy for GV70 owners to take advantage of their charging benefits. With the app, they can easily locate a charger and start charging. Plus, with hyper-fast charging speeds up to 350kW — the fastest available today — owners can charge with confidence. And, with the “promotions” feature in the app, it’s simple to start taking advantage of this incredible offer right away.

“As we take this next step into our fully-electrified future with our third EV model, Genesis is pleased to be collaborating with Electrify America to deliver convenient charging solutions to our customers,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America.

Putting This All Together

While the last two announcements were more focused on the GV70, it’s clear that Genesis is taking EV sales pretty seriously and that they have a solid plan from production to the customer’s driveway. Without that roadmap, no amount of production will matter. The cars have to get out there (in all states and most countries) and actually replace an ICE vehicle to do any good.

By getting the cars out there to sell, selling them well, and providing some important service for charging after the sale, they’ve got that roadmap in place, and should have some success!
