MSW Management, which is focused on working in partnership with the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), has awarded Li-Cycle co-founders Ajay Kochhar and Tim Johnston for their innovation and leadership in the lithium-ion battery recycling industry. The two co-founders were among twenty other innovators of 2022 awarded for transforming the waste industry.

Every year, MSW Management honors 22 industry leaders that are committed to innovation in their field. The MSW Management Innovator Awards honor professionals who create new products and technology for the waste and recycling industries. “The selected innovators represent the spirit of invention and entrepreneurship in the realm of waste management.”

MSW also added that the list of winners is: “Those rare people who see a solution where others see hopelessness. They speak up when others stay silent. They see a future better than the past, not worse. And when leadership was needed, and no one was raising their hand, they became a leader themselves.”

Li-Cycle’s CEO and co-founder, Ajay Kochhar, who initially launched Li-Cycle with Tim Johnston after noticing lithium-ion batteries being thrown into furnaces and kilns, gave the following statement:

“We are truly honored to have received this award amongst so many outstanding leaders and innovators. We believe this award is a reflection of Li-Cycle’s success, as we continue to accelerate the electric revolution through our environmentally and economically sustainable lithium-ion battery recycling technologies.”

Li-Cycle’s co-founder and executive chairman, Tim Johnston, also added that he was thrilled and extended his and the team’s thanks to MSW Management for selecting Li-Cycle.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for this award and extend our thanks to the team at MSW Management for selecting us. Our team is committed to building a more sustainable future for our planet and we believe we are only getting started as we continue to execute on our global growth plans.”
