Span’s panels enable visibility and control over each individual circuit in the home, up to a total of 32 circuits. Bundling the ability of Span’s smart electrical panels to monitor and control power flowing to each circuit in the house with Panasonic’s Evervolt system should allow for more granular control of what circuits in the home are backed up during an outage, among other benefits. For example, if the power goes out, Span gives homeowners the ability to toggle individual circuits on or off to save power while preserving power for critical loads like lighting and refrigeration.

“Panasonic is thrilled to work with Span to bring homeowners more control, customization and visibility over their home energy reserves and expenditures,” said Mukesh Sethi, Director, Panasonic Life Solutions Company of America. “Alongside increased demand for versatile, reliable and efficient residential home energy storage, customers tell us they want more control over how their energy is allocated within the home. Together, Span and Panasonic are answering that call.”

Integrating energy storage with Span’s smart electrical panel functionality has the potential to unlock the full potential of the Span panel itself by letting the panel and storage work more seamlessly and transparently with each other.

The synergies play out in the installation as well, with a combined smart panel system being easier and cheaper to install compared to the cost of upgrading an electrical panel and adding an energy storage system to a home. This is both a function of the need for fewer components and less labor to install the simplified combined system.

For example, in our Tesla Solarglass Roof and Powerwall system, all of the loads being backed up by the batteries had to be run to a dedicated critical loads panel. As a completely new home build, it was not a massive incremental cost, but doing this would be much more challenging when installing in an existing home. With Span and Panasonic’s integrated solution, critical loads can simply be selected through the Span app, drastically simplifying the installation even further.

“Panasonic is one of the most trusted and recognized brands in home appliances, consumer electronics, and solar,” says said Span CEO and founder, Arch Rao. “Now that they are bringing a home battery solution to market with EverVolt, we’re incredibly excited to work with them to deliver a stronger solution to market that centers on the customer experience.”

The new integrated solution will be offered by Panasonic and Span through their network of installers. For more information, head over to Panasonic’s residential solar technology digital home or drop by Span’s site for the new partnership.
