The 2019 Santa Monica AltCar Expo Brings All The Plug-In Vehicles To One Place!

The Santa Monica AltCar Expo and Ride & Drive is consistently one of our favorite shows of the year because it has most of the popular plug-in vehicles and company experts in one place. The public is then free to simply walk into the free event and drive vehicles and ask questions to their heart’s content.

In the event’s 14th year, the annual event is coming to the Santa Monica College Bundy Campus at 3171 S. Bundy, LA, 90099 on November 2nd, 2019.

“The AltCar and Electrification Expo is the leading venue for getting the public excited and energized about transitioning our community to carbon-neutrality, both in terms of zero-emission vehicles and buildings,” says Drew Johnstone, Sustainability Analyst for the City of Santa Monica. “AltCar is a strategic partner for the City of Santa Monica and helps push the needle forward in the City’s commitment to decarbonizing transportation and infrastructure.”

Guests will enjoy free admission and parking to the Expo and Ride & Drive to test-drive vehicles and interact with product specialists from brands and manufacturers that are continuing the movement toward alternative fuel and clean car policies in an easily accessible setting. This year’s event features a wide array of the latest battery-electric, fuel-cell electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid electric vehicles including the Honda Clarity PHEV, Nissan Leaf EV, Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell, Toyota Prius Prime PHEV, and more.

This year, AltCar will also feature two complimentary panels, EV 101 and Building Electrification, offering the public the rare opportunity to learn about the alternative technology movement from the people inside the industry themselves. Presented by the United States Green Building Council LA Chapter (USGBC-LA) in partnership with ChargePoint, SoCal Edison and the LA Department of Water and Power, the EV 101 panel will explore the different types of charging available for EVs, and installation considerations for electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), its benefits, costs, and rebates.

In the second panel focused on building electrification, Stuart Cooley, Professor of Renewable Energies at Santa Monica College, will sit down for a conversation with Nick Brown, President of Build Smart. They will talk about how, with deliberate planning, homes can be built or retrofitted to be zero-emission. The panel will talk through the benefits and methods used to make construction projects zero-emission. Both panels will be moderated by Ben Stapleton, Executive Director of USGBC-LA.

The 14th Annual AltCar Santa Monica Expo and Ride & Drive is on November 2 from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Santa Monica College Bundy Campus, 3171 S. Bundy, LA, 90099. AltCar is a free, all-ages event. Pre-registration is free and recommended for expedited entry. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
