Homeowners Don and Sarah Ham were not happy with the recurring monthly expenses needed to keep their heating oil-fired HVAC system running, and found financial relief in the form of a Dandelion residential geothermal system.
Don had looked at geothermal systems in the past, but found the price tag to be a bit out of range for him. When he came back to look at the new systems from Dandelion Energy, he found that its pricing, combined with the federal rebates, made the system a no-brainer for him.
After running the numbers, Don pulled the trigger on a 3-ton Dandelion Geothermal system this year and expects it to save him money compared to what he was paying for heating oil. After running the numbers, the upgrade to a modern geothermal system for the Hams was more than just a technology upgrade, it is an investment that Don expects to save him some serious cash each and every month.
On top of that, the ability to get rid of the giant tank of heating oil in his basement was a plus. “I also really didn’t like having an oil tank in my basement or that I was contributing to greenhouse gas emissions,” Don said. “I’m a preservationist, and obviously fossil fuels aren’t great.” It’s one of those soft benefits that’s hard to put a finger on when pricing out a system, but can provide just enough of a benefit that it makes taking the risk on a new technology worth it.
“Now, I have no problems, even in the coldest weather, heating my home,” Don said. “Even in the harshest of winters, your system is still going to reach your set point and give comfort to the space.” That comfort is a nice perk for Don, who just can’t get over all the benefits that he’s realized from his new Dandelion Geothermal system. “It’s more sustainable, it provides for a healthier indoor air environment, the ROI is very good… it’s like a win-win-win-win.”

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
