The Nomad Wireless Charger Brings Fast Phone Charging To The Model 3, & More

One of the biggest design gaps in the interior of the Tesla Model 3 is the lack of integrated wireless phone charging. The folks over at Nomad have been developing a line of wireless charging solutions and other innovative hipster-lifestyle solutions, and the wireless phone charger for the Tesla Model 3 was a natural extension of their lineup.

The Nomad Wireless Phone Charger for the Tesla Model 3 arrived on the scene and quickly became the gold standard in the space. The sleek rubber matte with a curved center divider provides best-in-class stability for phones, while the integrated charging status LEDs give owners an extra bit of information about what’s happening behind the scenes.

The folks at Nomad shipped us one of their wireless chargers to run through the paces to see how it stacks up to the competition, and we were pleasantly surprised by it when it showed up. Right out of the box, the Nomad charger felt like the charger that Tesla would have designed if it offered a wireless phone charger. Now that Tesla has indeed introduced its own wireless phone charger, we know that the Nomad is actually a few steps up from the Tesla-produced wireless phone charger.

Compared to Tesla’s 5-watt output per charging station, the Nomad wireless phone charger puts out 7.5 watts. That is a significant 50% improvement in output that results in more power delivered to the phone in the few minutes it is on the charging pad on the way to work, to the store, or to pick up the kids.

The Nomad, like other wireless phone charging pads for the Tesla Model 3, is compatible with all Qi-enabled phones. This includes all of the iPhones built since the iPhone 8 and many Android phones over the last few years.

Buying the Nomad gets you the charging mat itself and a pair of USB splitters that ensure you get power from the two built-in USB ports in the center console of the Model 3 without losing the ability to use other USB devices in the car. An optional spacer is required to line up the charging coils in smaller phones lined up with the Nomad’s charging coil.

There is no escaping the premium price of the Nomad, at $129, but it is also impossible to ignore the high quality and noteworthy differences it brings to the market. As of today, the Nomad takes the cake for the fastest, most feature-packed wireless phone charger for the Tesla Model 3.
