For the past four years, ClimateLaunchpad* has been growing their green business competition. Their 2019 season is underway, with competing countries from almost 50 countries. Each country receives applicants, hosts national level Boot Camps and competitions, and then three winners from each country head to the Global Grand Final – this year being held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in November or early December 2019. Many country-level competitions still have open deadlines, with Boot Camp dates pending.

Just a few years ago, the competition included just 11 European countries. Yet each year the competition has grown to increase capacity and geographic diversity, bringing in fresh, unique, and localized ideas from regions around the world, with Africa and Asia as fastest growing geographical areas.

This year, there are 16 competitions in India alone (which just joined last year). The representation stretches across the globe, from North America (Canada), South America and the Caribbean islands (including Suriname, Columbia, Brazil, Barbados and Jamaica), has expanded reach in Africa (including Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Cape Verde, Mauritius, Kenya and Nigeria) and increased representation from Central Asian countries like Russia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan – especially interesting as these traditionally oil-producing regions are showing themselves to be leading cleantech innovation.

More about the Competition

ClimateLaunchpad is a part of the Climate-KIC entrepreneurship offerings, and supports fixing climate change, one startup at a time. This ClimateLaunchpad event focuses on really early stage startups, and allows the founders and team to develop an idea more fully, and get it ready to market.

At the country level, each Boot Camp offers business development with national level trainers; once at the Global Grand Final, ten finalists have the opportunity to attend the Climate KIC Accelerator to further develop their idea. There have been dozens of success stories from the competition, and the last two years featured two teams on the 30 under 30 list from Forbes.

Attendees – which include funders, businesses, accelerators, and journalists (like our team!) – come from around the world to meet and greet at the Global Grand Final, and to learn more about the newest innovations are from around the world. This year the event will feature more in-depth programming to help build the best businesses. You can register to attend here.
