Check Out This “Honda Civic”
One of our readers from Norwalk, California, sent us some interesting images of a “Honda Civic” he saw recently.
For those who didn’t figure it out, the car is actually a Tesla Model 3. The owner of this one completely removed all Tesla badging and replaced it with the badges from a Honda Civic Si.
To help complete the look, the owner put “VTEC” graphics on the side in the same place that an older Civic would have it.
Our reader found the front of the vehicle later, and got us a shot. The Tesla badge has been removed, but no Honda badging is present. Cute “doge” decorations inside conceal part of the seats.
We’ve reached out to the car’s owner to learn more about why he did this. For now, we can simply have some fun speculating on the reasons!

Some commenters where we first saw this said it might be part of a way to “beat” parking tickets, speed cameras, and other less thorough enforcement measures. It would be fun to think this, and it may be possible to get away with it on minor infractions, but it’s not something you could get away with forever. Eventually, they’ll catch on, no matter what comical measures you use.
Another, more likely, reason is avoiding theft and burglary. Thieves after your car or after what’s in it have been targeting Teslas for theft, often breaking the rear quarter window to gain access to the trunk of the car without setting off alarms. By flying “under the radar” for the dumber thieves, it might be a good way to avoid hassle and heartache.
Finally, and most likely, it could be just a fun gag. Some people will identify the vehicle as a Tesla, and others won’t. When they don’t, it could be a fun way to have your car be a “sleeper” or “troll racer.” If that’s the case, this could be one of the best examples of “humble badging” we’ve ever seen.
Either way, the rear side of the car does oddly go together with the Honda badging. Perhaps in some alternate reality, one where Honda got into the EV game faster, there are some Honda Civics running on electric power, designed by Honda’s North American head of design and engineering: Elon Musk.
