That’s right ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of the year again — National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) is next week, September 8-16, 2018! National Drive Electric week is a rallying cry for everything that electric vehicles represent and brings together a grassroots collection of events spread across the United States under a single banner.

Events range from electric car shows, full-blown expos, coffee and bagel meet ups, dealer test drives and more. In my years of attending NDEW events, I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to chat with other EV drivers and potential EV drivers about the actual experience of owning and driving an electric car as a daily driver. The opportunity for the public to talk with owners without having to wade through as much of the dealership muck that often leaves a bad taste in the mouth makes NDEW a great outreach event.

This year, CleanTechnica is taking our Tesla Model 3 to the National Drive Electric Week Event in Oxnard, California, on September 9th from 9:30am – 3pm. Look for me there or head on over to the official NDEW site to find an event closer to you. The grassroots event also lets interested parties volunteer to help at a NDEW event, register their vehicle to participate in an event, or contact the event organizer for any other type of request.

On the other hand, if there aren’t any events near you, you can always host your own NDEW event that’s custom-tailored to what you think folks in your neck of the woods would benefit from the most.

For me, I enjoy the opportunity to see a bunch of new electric vehicles and even some older vehicles that have had a powertrain upgrade all in one place. There’s just something about bringing like-minded individuals together to see what everyone is thinking and doing to catalyze action. The collection of groups, companies and products that come out to support the event are also great to see and often represent the first time I’ve seen some of the products I spend some much time with in person.

Are you planning to attend or host an NDEW event next week? What has your experience been at Drive Electric events in past years? Let us know what your favorite aspects of the event are and where you’ll be this year.
