BYD took to the stage at its Dream Gala where BYD leadership outlined the bold company vision to lead China and the world into an era of zero-emission vehicles powered by renewable energy.
At its Dreams Gala, BYD announced that it was releasing the technology for 341 sensors and 66 controllers for its DiLink system “on an open platform” as a means of encouraging other companies to adopt a standard platform for the development of electric vehicles. BYD’s DiLink Intelligent Network System is a critical part of its e-Platform that is the foundation for its battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology.
The DiLink system includes all of the sensors on the vehicle, including the infotainment system, HVAC, and vehicle lighting systems, to name a few. The fully cloud-connected service gives vehicle owners the ability to engage the air conditioning and lights prior to entering the vehicle and a slew of other driver convenience features.
The infotainment screen has the ability to rotate via voice command and can look up local charging stations. The system not only polls the location of chargers, but also obtains the current status of the charging station to give the driver as much data as possible about a charging station before arriving.
The e-Platform and DiLink provide a solid foundation for other companies to rely on a common standard that they can then build battery electric vehicles on top of. BYD Founder and Chairman Wang Chuanfu spoke about his desire for the e-Platform, “The auto industry has been witnessing an unprecedented revolution, adopting the trends of globalization, electrification and intelligent network that are gradually turning into reality.” BYD is releasing its e-Platform technology in the hopes of spurring on the global wave of electrification that is sweeping across the world – one person, one city, one nation at a time.
“We are proud that a Chinese company such as BYD is paving the way for a new era of automotive history yet again, a decade after we redefined automobile performance and safety with the release of our DM (dual mode) platform,” said Wang Chuanfu, President and Chairman of BYD. “We believe that this collective effort will push the e-Platform to even greater heights, and accelerate the world’s adoption of an electric future.” Dual Mode is the terminology BYD uses for its plug-in hybrid vehicles that can run in either electric or internal combustion modes.

Former Tesla Battery Expert Leading Lyten Into New Lithium-Sulfur Battery Era — Podcast:
I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
