Two of India’s leading electric car manufacturers, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, will showcase a dozen electric vehicle models at the 2018 edition of Auto Expo India.

According to media reports, the two companies will present a variety of models at the Auto Expo highlighting the range of options that customers will have in the future. Mahindra & Mahindra, through its subsidiary Mahindra Electric, already offers electric hatchbacks, sedans, three-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Mahindra Electric is expected to showcase an electric version of its popular hatchback KUV. The car is a four-door model whose diesel and petrol version has become very popular in the Indian market. Two models, new to the Indian market, are also expected to be shown at the event. These could be the SsangYong Tivoli – S201 sedan and XUV Aero, which was first shown as a concept at Auto Expo 2016.

Mahindra is widely expected to present electric versions of its popular sports utility model Scorpio. Mahindra’s e2o and e2o plus hatchbacks and e-verito sedan are the most popular electric vehicles offered by the company.

Tata Motors is expected to present six electric vehicles, including electric versions of the hatchback Tiago and sedan Tigor. Tata Motors secured a contract to supply 350 electric sedans from Energy Efficiency Services Limited last year. The company supplied the Tigor sedan under this contract.

No concrete information is available regarding the other four electric models to be presented by the company. However, late last year there were media reports that the company is working to launch an electric version of the famous Nano model. The car had create global ripples as being the cheapest car. According to reports, these cars would be used for Uber-competitor Ola Cabs as taxis.
