Hyundai IONIQ — 2017 Professional Driver Car Of The Year

CleanTechnica earlier noted that the Hyundai IONIQ was a favorite at the Women’s World Car of the Year awards. That triplet of an electrified leader took the “Supreme Award.” It was also a CleanTechnica Car of the Year finalist last year.

An entirely different sector of the transit culture likes IONIQ as well and agrees the IONIQ is a winner. A 100-strong panel of private hire and chauffeur industry operators and experts found the IONIQ was their top choice. The group of private hire and chauffeur businesses named the Hyundai IONIQ Electric as the “Green Car of the Year” in the 2017 Professional Driver Car of the Year Awards.

“The magazine’s awards are judged with the help of a 100-strong panel of industry operators, experienced chauffeurs, and carefully-chosen editors, who rank more than 60 candidate vehicles following comprehensive real-world testing.”

A bright consideration of ecological opportunity for some judges were in the sensitive materials in IONIQ’s cabin, adding to its already super green credentials. The EV uses more environmentally conscious recycled plastics combined with powdered wood and volcanic stone for the interior door covers. This does not disappoint if you want a similar quality appearance as a conventional interior, by the way. I don’t think any of us wish to us plastics anymore, so at least the IONIQ incorporates recycled ones. This is a valuable, ecologically thoughtful addition to Hyundai IONIQ.

Once again, the three varieties of the IONIQ impressed as well. Mark Bursa, the editor of Professional Driver, said: “The taxi industry is under pressure to introduce cleaner vehicles, and Hyundai has all bases covered with hybrid, PHEV and electric versions of IONIQ. The electric version was the one that impressed our judges the most – it’s comfortable and smooth, and it certainly offers enough range for an urban driver to complete his shift before recharging is required.”
