EV Annex Puts The Tesla Model 3 In Your Pocket (4 Videos)

The folks over at EV Annex just can’t stop innovating. We usually find them with new products popping out of their shop in Florida, but this time they are going virtual with the release of their new Augmented Reality (AR) smartphone app. The app lets users get up close and personal with their very own Tesla Model 3 right now.

The folks over at EV Annex just can’t stop innovating. We usually find them with new products popping out of their shop in Florida, but this time they are going virtual with the release of their new Augmented Reality (AR) smartphone app. The app lets users get up close and personal with their very own Tesla Model 3 right now.

The app looks for a trigger image — in this case, the red and white EV Annex logo. When it sees that, it slaps a virtual Tesla Model 3 up on the screen. The car floats over the location of the card in three dimensions and lets users move around to get great 3D views of the virtual Model 3. If you get creative, you can even get inside the virtual car to check out the interior.

A few users have taken the app to the next level, scaling up the business-sized printout to nearly full-sized layouts. Yes, such overachievers have created a virtual car that is nearly the size of a regular car. These guys go through a few different sizes and incrementally scale up their experimentation to the point of almost being able to “fit” inside the vehicle. What’s awesome is that the Augmented Reality Model 3 is so detailed that they can even see what radio station it is playing.

Longtime Tesla vlogger KmanAuto found the app and had some fun with it as well. His experimentation shows the versatility of the app as it picks out the trigger image against his very busy shirt.

The guys over at Now You Know took their green-screen skills to the next level and overlaid them with the augmented reality app in what nets out to something between a mix of Honey I Shrunk the Kids and a twisted version of Alice in Wonderland. Enjoy!

Last but definitely not least, Mr Fuertes from the Fuertes Family Loves Tesla (Spanish) YouTube channel gives a fun rundown of the app and it’s functionality in Spanish. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are blown away with the app and the amazing amount of detail the EV Annex team managed to pack into it. It truly is a beautiful creation that is so easy for just about anyone to use.

Head over to the EV Annex Augmented Reality app page for direct links to the app and full instructions for making your very own trigger image. It’s one of those apps that you’ll just have to show everyone you know because it’s just that cool. Happy Augmenting!!

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
