Trump’s Idiotic, Health-Destroying Decision To Pull US Out Of Paris Climate Accord

Donald Trump has finally made up his tiny mind. He will pull the US out of the Paris climate accords. Congratulations, Trump voters. You got your wish.

After dithering his way through the G7 conference in Sicily last week, the current occupant of the Offal Office has finally made up his mind. According to, the alleged president has decided to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord it pledged to support in December of 2015. Joshua just covered the news here on CleanTechnica from an “inside the beltway” angle. I’m going to have a little more fun while also providing a few more details on who to despise.

The Trumpster reached his decision to abandon US obligations under the Paris climate accord based on input from maggots in his cabinet such as EPA administrator Scott Pruitt and Steve “I’m an economic nationalist” Bannon. He was also urged to do so by 22 prominent Senators, among them:

  • Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader
  • John Barrasso, chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works
  • Jim Inhofe, former chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and widely parodied as Senator Snowball
  • John Cornyn, Senate Majority Whip
  • Roy Blunt, Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference
  • Orrin Hatch, Senate Finance chair
  • Senators: Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee

A portion of their letter to Trump read as follows: “Because of existing provisions within the Clean Air Act and others embedded in the Paris Agreement, remaining in it would subject the United States to significant litigation risk that could upend your Administration’s ability to fulfill its goal of rescinding the Clean Power Plan. Accordingly, we strongly encourage you to make a clean break from the Paris Agreement.” Ah, scaring The Donald with legal issues — how Donald-esque. Unsurprisingly, these disastrously elected officials think it’s think it’s more important to pollute your children’s lungs than stop global heating.

In other words, dear reader, it’s all about coal. America’s most powerful leaders have peered deep into their hearts and decided what Americans need is more atmospheric pollution, more premature deaths, more asthma, and more smog. This is what the people who voted for Trump and these senators said they wanted and now they are going to get it. All of them live upwind of sweet and savory atmospheric pollution, apparently.

According to sources believed to be reliable, the only question now is whether to withdraw formally from the Paris agreement — a process that could take up to 3 years — or abrogate the underlying United Nations climate change treaty — which would be quicker but have wider implications globally.

The announcement comes just one day after Gary Cohn, head of the president’s National Economic Council, told the press while returning from a disastrous trip to Europe that “coal doesn’t even make that much sense anymore as a feedstock.” The Trump maladministration will now turn its back on renewable energy, which promises to add millions of new jobs, and put all of its chips on coal, an industry that is hemorrhaging jobs due to its high cost relative to renewable energy and natural gas. Conservatives have just signed a death warrant for their own children and grandchildren. Ain’t democracy grand?
