The stylish Jaguar I-Pace all-electric SUV concept was revealed last week, accompanied by the announcement that Jaguar would be releasing a production model based closely on the concept vehicle by the end of 2018.

While our previous coverage of the Jaguar I-Pace was pretty substantial, and featured a lot of press images, there’s nothing quite like seeing a vehicle in normal “everyday” circumstances to get a better idea of what it is. While this isn’t quite that, I did come across a walk-around video of the Jaguar I-Pace at the Los Angeles Auto Show that seems worth reposting. Enjoy.

As noted in our earlier coverage, the Jaguar I-Pace is really the first true competitor to the Tesla Model X SUV (or even the Tesla Model S) out there. Across all parameters — from performance, to styling, to range — the all-electric SUV compares favorably.

It apparently won’t offer quite the acceleration of the Model X, but then nothing does — the Model X is the fastest production SUV in history … by far. Performance-wise, though, the I-Pace should please just about any driver out there.

Possibly more importantly, the I-Pace features a 90 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, thereby providing an estimated range of a least 220 miles — enough to probably prove itself as being more convenient than a typical internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle with regard to fuel. (With a substantial enough range, plugging in an electric vehicle at home is a lot more convenient than going to the gas station every week or so. 220 miles seems to be right around where that added convenience becomes really apparent.)

The Jaguar I-Pace concept seen in the video above is reportedly fairly close to production ready, so what you see hitting the market around 2 years from now (or maybe sooner) shouldn’t look all that different.
