ABB has doubled the production capacity of its solar inverter manufacturing facility in Jüri, Estonia, according to a recent press release.

The manufacturing capacity expansion is the result of growing global demand for the company’s central inverters, according to the Managing Director of ABB’s Power Conversion business unit, Robert Itschner.

abb-invertersItschner commented on the matter thusly: “We have seen an increasing global demand for our central inverters, the PVS800, and the recently launched PVS980. This factory expansion, and the new factory in India, opened on September 1st, will help us meet this demand.”

This demand growth has seemingly been driven by the large drop in solar photovoltaic (PV) cell and panel prices seen over the last few years. Most analysts expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future.

Itschner continued: “With our factory investments and those we have made in our climate chamber and full power testing facilities in Helsinki, ABB has further strengthened its position as a global leader in renewable energy.”

The press release provides a bit of background: “ABB provides the most comprehensive portfolio of products, systems, solutions and services along the solar photovoltaic (PV) value chain that enables the generation, transmission and distribution of solar power for grid-connected and microgrid applications. ABB’s offering includes inverters, low-voltage products, monitoring and control systems, grid connection, stabilization and integration products, as well as complete electrical balance of plant solutions. ABB also offers a wide range of support and maintenance services, including remote operations and diagnostics, helping ensure solar installations deliver optimal performance.”

In addition to aforementioned facilities in Estonia and Helsinki (Finland), ABB maintains central inverter research & development facilities and also a training center in Helsinki.
