Tesla Explores: New York City & Santa Barbara Pop-Up Shop Features Model X & Airstream Trailer (Video)

Originally published on EVANNEX.

Last week, Tesla Motors [NASDAQ: TSLA] announced that it’s: “hitting the road across North America with our first-ever Tesla mobile Design Studios… as our fleet of mobile galleries roams to destinations near and far.” According to their listings (thus far), Tesla Explores will be visiting a variety of cities across California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Georgia, Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. As Tesla spends $0 on traditional advertising, this initiative represents another example of innovative guerrilla marketing that will definitely create some buzz across the U.S. in the coming months.

Teslarati reports that, “Tesla kicked off its ‘Explores’ tour this past weekend with the company’s first pit stop taking place in Santa Barbara, CA. A sleek and flashy Airstream trailer being towed by an equally sleek and flashy Ludicrous Tesla Model X P90D made its way to Paseo Nuevo, a busy outdoor entertainment and lifestyle facility located at the quaint beachside city 100 miles north of Los Angeles.” Check out some first-hand photos from the event below…

Also, on the east coast, Fox Business reported: “Coffee to go. Pizza to go. Tesla cars to go? [Yes] it’s happening in New York City, right on the corner of 58th and the Avenue of Americas, as part of Tesla Explores cross country tour; a pop-up store… With their mobile design studio literally in tow, thanks to an Airstream trailer, their Model X and S fully electric vehicles are wowing onlookers.”

Tesla’s Will Nicholas explains, “In addition to our retail outlets across the country this gives us an opportunity to get in front of folks while they are visiting a place like New York who may not be in the market for a new car but can still benefit knowing some of the technology and utility that is in our vehicles… We have seen a lot of people get into our cars, into our airstream trailers, take photos post on social media, we are happy to have so many people interested.”

The pop-up studio is just another example of Tesla’s non-traditional thinking. “It’s a playful way to get in front of people and pragmatically demonstrate the utility and convenience of the vehicles,” adds Nicholas. This approach follows in the footsteps of another successful pop-up shop concept (using shipping containers) from Tesla last summer. It definitely looks like a cool idea so if you’re interested in learning more about Tesla Explores and its upcoming travel schedule, check out their planned destinations across the country (on their map) and be sure to bring along other local Tesla owners, fans, and any friends interested in purchasing a Tesla.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
