lutz voltIn a recent interview with Car and Driver, former GM, Ford, Chrysler, and BMW exec Bob Lutz was quoted as saying that the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid electric car (or “extended-range electric car”) was the car that he was the most proud of.

Though, in characteristic Lutz fashion, he also seemed to take a swipe at electric vehicles in general.

Here’s his answer to the question about which car most fed his pride: “Everybody laughs, but the Volt — the most difficult to accomplish in a corporate environment. So much engineering in a car that we knew we’d sell at a loss.”

The Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid is a great car, and was pioneering in many ways, so it seems a reasonable choice. After all of the strange comments that Lutz has made in recent years, this one is really quite understandable and makes for a nice break from the usual insanity.

(Tip of the hat to “ctprice” on the GM Volt forum.)
