Nissan LEAF Group Buy In Quebec

By Bruno Marcoux

Aref Salem

Aref Salem — Montreal City Councillor – borough of St-Laurent, and member of the City of Montreal’s executive committee — is in charge of Montreal’s electrification plan.

It has been a year that I purchased my 2015 Nissan Leaf. My Nissan salesman made me discover QEVA (Québec Electrical Vehicle Association). I read with interest all the articles published on its website. I also started reading all the sites mentioned as sources on certain QEVA articles. That’s where I fell on an article that explained group buys made by SWEEP (South West Energy Efficiency Project).

I got involved in QEVA and I produced a report that I gave in the course of Montreal’s public consultation of its parking policy. I accompanied this with a brief but heartfelt speech that was very favorable towards electromobility. That’s where I had the pleasure of meeting Aref Salem.

Zero emission Nissan vehicles set to electrify Milan at UEFA ChaI don’t know if my effort weighed in the balance, but the city of Montreal later decided to purchase 42 Nissan Leafs and expressed its objective to have all of the municipal vehicles 100% electric.

Since the Leafs were purchased at Nissan Gabriel Jean-Talon, I decided to contact them and talk to Sam Karadanaian, the salesman who signed the deal for the 42 Leafs. I explained SWEEP’s group buy initiative in Colorado. They obtained a significant rebate over and above the government incentives, resulting in 248 Nissan Leafs being sold in only a few months. I am very proud to announce that Nissan Gabriel Jean-Talon is ready to do a group buy similar to the one done by SWEEP.

Aref Salem
