Sales figures for electric vehicles (all-electrics + plug-in hybrids) in France during the month of May 2016 were recently released (estimates anyways) by the EV Sales blog. So, what do they show?
They show that there were over 2,600 electric vehicle registrations in France during May 2016, representing a 44% year-on-year increase (compared to May 2015). It’s looking fairly likely that total unit sales for 2016 will top 45,000.
The share of the country’s total auto market represented by electric vehicles now rests at around 1.74%. This compares to a market share of 1.41% in 2015.
What else has changed in the French market? Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) seem to be losing market share to all-electrics. The EV Sales blog provides more:
France is known for being a stable market, with little changes in the ranking, and May confirmed that, one has to go down to the Ninth Place to see a position change, with the Kia Soul EV rising one position to #9, with the Citröen e-Mehari doing the same in #14, but the VW e-Up! (45 units, best result in 2 years), did even better, jumping three positions to #26. May saw plug-in hybrids lose share to BEV’s, now that buyers have less fiscal incentives to buy PHEV’s. Money makes the world go round…
Looking at the brands ranking, the Ruling Force of Renault (#1 since 2011) continues to be the Master In Command, with 43%, followed at a distance by Nissan (15%) and BMW (9%).
