Arcimoto SRK Photo Essay (CleanTechnica Exclusive)

April 30th, 2016 by

Last week, we had the opportunity to meet up with Arcimoto founder Mark Frohnmayer and team to run version 8 of the SRK through its paces in beautiful Venice Beach, California.

A full review is coming, but, for now, I wanted to whet your appetites with some pictures from our day with the little guy (the SRK, not Mark … who’s actually rather tall). Enjoy!

Met Mark and saw it at the UConnect Symposium in Berkeley last week…pretty neat!

I bet people in Venice absolutely loved it. If we ever get a second EV, it’ll be something like this. Well… Actually maybe not since we don’t have a garage to keep its open design protected, but I do want something of its size.

The low desert is too hot for these things around town.

Is this ICE or Hybrid, or Plug In HEV, or pure EV?

    • Pure EV goodness 🙂

    • Robert Pollock

After driving an EV, nothing that burns gas interests me. The Spark is a whole new sensation from the ‘back adjustment’ you get under acceleration to the sounds (road noise mostly) and the smell, or lack of it. You can ‘click, click, click’ through the L and D driving with little input, only using the brake to make a full stop and collecting forward momentum, in the form of electricity, and putting it back in the battery. (re-charging itself)
The ‘Hybrids’ are a good thing to start, but I think are there to preserve the oil infrastructure. Certainly useful but why, when pure EV is so much better?

I love the practicality and simplicity for scooting around town but it has to cost little, or no thanks. I’ve got a Spark EV compliance car without DC Fast charge that is near the end of the lease. What will Chevy do with it, it’s worth between $14k (lease calculation) down to almost nothing. That is the price competition for this three wheeled unit. I wonder how much you could cut off the Spark to make it more “California”?

  • That thing looks like a ton of fun. Can’t wait to read the review. 😀
