BYD Becomes A Preferred Partner To Masdar

The top Chinese electric vehicle firm BYD has signed a new “preferred partner” agreement with the United Arab Emirate’s state-firm Masdar, according to recent reports. The agreement will see BYD help Masdar in the promotion of electric vehicles, battery energy storage systems, and reportedly autonomous vehicles as well, amongst other things.
While the aforementioned areas are the apparent focus, the agreement could be expanded to include work involving solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar street lights, LED technology, and other things.
The agreement will see BYD’s various technologies showcased at the Masdar City Research and Development hub in Abu Dhabi — as well as at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and elsewhere.
Masdar CEO Mohamed Al Ramahi commented: “Today’s agreement is the basis for a long-term partnership that will add further value to the advanced R&D already taking place at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, and will strengthen the City’s positioning as an ‘innovation ecosystem’ connecting R&D, education, business and investment. We are looking forward to working with BYD on a range of cutting-edge projects, and to integrating their expertise as we pursue the many growth opportunities in the clean energy sector, particularly in the Middle East & North Africa.”
Ad Huang, the General Manager for the Middle East and Africa regions at BYD, commented that the company was intending to help in the fulfillment of 3 “green dreams” in the region: “affordable solar power generation, efficient energy storage, and electrified public transportation.” It should be remembered that BYD is of course an acronym for “Build Your Dreams.”
