Infosys Aiming For Carbon Neutrality By 2018

One of India’s leading information technology companies, Infosys, has been designated a finalist for the coveted Zayed Future Energy Prize.
The nomination is the result of the company’s dedicated and sustained effort to make its operations environmentally sustainable, including an aim to be carbon neutral by 2018. The company has taken several measures to increase its consumption of renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce food and water wastage.
During the last financial year (2014-2015), Infosys expanded its sustainability efforts. Two campuses of Infosys in India were awarded the LEED Platinum rating for energy efficiency by the Indian Green Building Council. The company now has a total of 12 LEED Platinum-rated buildings. Several office buildings boast 30-40% reduction in energy consumption compared to baseline.
At its Bengaluru campus, the company has upgraded the existing energy management system to a more powerful Central Energy Management System. The new system is comprised of 2,500 integrated energy meters linked to an enterprise-level energy monitoring and information tool.
Infosys has also delivered on its commitment to conserve and promote biodiversity. Against a target to plant 25,000 saplings in FY2014-2015, the company planted 89,000 saplings, taking the total number of saplings planted across its campuses to 415,000.
The company implemented rainwater harvesting in all new buildings constructed in FY2014-2015. Rainwater harvesting reservoirs at Mysuru, Pune, Mangaluru, and Hyderabad campuses have a combined holding capacity of 300 million liters.
The company has entered into strategic partnerships with some of the world’s leading energy technology and research organisations with an aim to implement some of the latest green technologies at its campuses. The company is working with Saint-Gobain Research India, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, among others.

Good stuff. It’s a very high-profile company in India, the leading IT company, so these efforts will have emulators. The energy management sounds like something Infosys can sell.
